About me
Jorge Navarro began his teaching career in 1989 and was twice named his school’s Teacher of the Year. He holds an M.Ed. in English Education and was a Doctoral Candidate (Ph.D.) at the University of Florida. His research interests include bilingual education, immigration and assessment. Jorge has taught in Florida, New York City, and California. He ended his 15-year career in public education after serving as a district ELL Coordinator at the San Francisco Unified School District.
Before joining Summit K-12, Jorge spent 8 years directing business development for NWEA throughout the Middle and Near East, and four years with Curriculum Associates. Jorge is now Summit K-12’s Vice President of Strategic Partnerships, working with California school districts, and key professional associations across
the United States.
He also happens to be an accomplished musician, bilingual podcaster, and writer.Jorge’s band, The Cuban Cowboys, play a unique combination of traditional Cuban music and indie rock. Jorge has toured extensively across the United States and Europe, and has been featured on NPR’s ‘Morning Edition’, in the Wall Street Journal,and National Geographic, among numerous other media outlets. His first book, Jinetero 2.0, was published in late 2025. It is partially based on a CALSA-sponsored trip to Cuba that took place in 2010. His second book, Go Your Home: An Autobiography of Bilingual Education, will be published in 2027.
