Dr. Alejandra Velez is an educational leader with over 20 years of experience dedicated to advancing equity, inclusion, and access within the TK–12 landscape. A first-generation immigrant from Colombia, Dr. Velez’s personal journey deeply informs her professional mission of ensuring that all students receive high-quality, culturally responsive supports. She currently serves as the Administrative Director of Special Education and Student Services for the Brea Olinda Unified School District, where she spearheads the development of systems designed to foster inclusive practices and equitable student outcomes.Throughout her career, Dr. Velez has held pivotal leadership roles across both district and charter settings, including tenures as Director of Student Services and Director of Special Education. Her work is centered on the creation of robust, inclusive systems through the implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), restorative and equitable practices, and comprehensive mental health resources, all while ensuring rigorous compliance with Title IX, IDEA, and Section 504.A passionate advocate for the "whole child," Dr. Velez is a staunch supporter of cultural diversity and dual-language immersion programs, viewing linguistic heritage as a vital asset to the modern classroom. Beyond her administrative responsibilities, she serves as an adjunct professor, where she prepares and mentors the next generation of educators and school leaders. Fluent in Spanish and French, Dr. Velez brings a uniquely global, collaborative approach to her leadership, remaining steadfast in her dedication to creating school systems where every student is seen, valued, and empowered to succeed.
