About me
Dr. Gloria E. Ciriza is the San Diego County Superintendent of Schools, where she has been instrumental in advancing the goal of the San Diego County Office of Education to building belonging through public education.
She has been a teacher, a principal, a central office leader, a university instructor, and now is the first woman and first Latina to serve as the San Diego County Superintendent of Schools in the history of the organization.
Dr. Ciriza’s achievement is an inspiration for every child who dreams of one day leading and aspires to be something that might seem impossible in this moment.
At SDCOE, she keeps children at the center of the organization with a focus on fostering a sense of belonging for all students and removing barriers to their success. As a first-generation American, she is passionate about ensuring every child has access to the opportunities and resources needed to thrive.
Dr. Ciriza's leadership has been marked by a commitment to empowering employees and developing authentic relationships to ensure high-quality education for all students. She has been recognized as Administrator of the Year for Curriculum and Instruction by the Association of California School Administrators and the Administrator of the Year by the California Association of Bilingual Educators.
