Dr. Lorena Luna Sanchez is currently in her first year as Associate Superintendent, following eight years of service as Assistant Superintendent in the Office of K–12 Educational Services at Garden Grove Unified School District. Dr. Sanchez embodies a deep dedication to educational equity. A proud Latina and first-generation college student, she supports district initiatives dedicated to students and their families through state and federal funding. These programs encompass expanded day services, parent education in primary languages, and student leadership and mentoring opportunities.
Her tenure with GGUSD began in 2005, when she initially served as Assistant Principal at Los Amigos High School before assuming the principalship at Santiago High School for six years. Under her leadership, Santiago High School achieved national recognition as an AVID National Demonstration site.
Her career also includes significant contributions within Long Beach Unified School District, where she began as a high school Spanish teacher and later transitioned to roles in the Office of Program Assistance for Language Minority Students as a program specialist.
Dr. Sanchez is an alumna of California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish. She furthered her education with a master’s degree in Education from California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), and earned a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Administration from the University of Southern California (USC).
