On July 1, 2024, Ruben Aurelio took over as superintendent of the Vallejo City Unified School District, bringing with him a wealth of educational experience and a track record of success. Aurelio's commitment to education is evident in his diverse roles and responsibilities across various school districts. Before assuming the role of superintendent for the Vallejo Unified School District, he served as the superintendent of the St. Helena Unified School District, showcasing his versatility and adaptability. He is highly regarded for his achievements at St. Helena Unified, particularly his improvement of academic outcomes and his fosterment of strong community relations and collaborations. His previous positions include serving as an associate superintendent and chief academic officer for the Berkeley and West Contra Costa Unified School Districts. He also served for 11 years at the San Leandro Unified School District, where he was director of assessment and data, assistant director of technology, and director of research and evaluation. In addition, Aurelio has experience as both a principal and a teacher. As a native of Los Angeles and the son of immigrant parents from Argentina, Aurelio's journey to becoming the Vallejo Unified School District superintendent is a testament to his resilience and determination. He is a proud first-generation college graduate, earning his bachelor's degree in anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley, and a master's degree from California State University, East Bay. He also holds certification as a chief business official.
