CALSA’s Summer Institute is where innovators, educators, and leaders come together to shape the future of public education. Grounded in the theme Somos el Puente entre Generaciones, this year’s conference elevates the voices, practices, and partnerships that strengthen schools and communities across California.
Woodcraft Rangers, a non-profit organization, has served Southern California youth for over 100 years with outdoor learning and school site expanded learning programs (ASES, 21st Century, ELOP). Woodcraft now supports over 30,000 students including Los Angeles USD, Pomona USD, ABC USD, Los Nietos SD, Pasadena USD, Moreno Valley USD, and Central SD to name a few.
We also own and operate Camp Woodcraft, a 180+ acre retreat center in Big Bear Valley that was previously operated by the Los Angeles County Office of Education. Camp Woodcraft offers a beautiful and peaceful space for students to learn and grow together away from the complications of the city, offering overnight school retreats aligned to NGSS standards. Districts are using ELOP and other funds (S/C, parent donations, fundraisers) to provide this experience for their students.
From the very beginning of Woodcraft in the 1920s, we have believed in welcoming all children to enjoy programs, and this foundation continues today. Woodcraft has a dedicated inclusion department of educators with special education experience to support students who might need extra help. As a non-profit, we fundraise to help defray costs and innovate in the expanded learning space.
