CALSA’s Summer Institute is where innovators, educators, and leaders come together to shape the future of public education. Grounded in the theme Somos el Puente entre Generaciones, this year’s conference elevates the voices, practices, and partnerships that strengthen schools and communities across California.
The Youth Cinema Project (YCP), an initiative of the Latino Film Institute, is an award-winning educational program that empowers students through the art of filmmaking and storytelling. Serving elementary, middle, and high school students, YCP integrates media arts, literacy, social-emotional learning, and career-connected education into engaging, hands-on experiences led by professional filmmaking mentors.Through collaborative film production, students develop critical skills in communication, creativity, teamwork, problem-solving, and self-expression while gaining exposure to careers in the creative economy. YCP partners with school districts across California and beyond to provide standards-aligned programming during the school day, after school, and through Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways.Since its launch, YCP has engaged thousands of students, helping them discover the power of their own voices and stories while preparing them for success in college, career, and civic life.
