CALSA Summer Institute 2026

Proudly descended from generations of workers, Héctor Camacho (he/him/él) serves as a community leader in the fight for greater access to education and economic justice at the local, state, and national levels. In June 2026, he was elected San Mateo County Superintendent of Schools and will take office in January 2027. He currently serves as Executive Director, Equity, Social Justice, and Inclusion at the San Mateo County Office of Education.
Héctor served as a trustee on the San Mateo County Board of Education for 11 years, elected to three consecutive terms as board president. In 2020, Héctor co-founded the REACH Coalition of San Mateo County, a partnership between elected officials of color and community-based organizations advocating for community health. He previously served as President of the San Mateo County School Boards Association, Vice President of the California County Boards of Education, an elected delegate to the California Democratic Party, and a member of the Stanford Graduate School of Education Inclusion Council. He currently serves as a board member for the South San Francisco Library Board, the Ravenswood Education Foundation, and the Rooted Together Immigrant Legal Defense Fund.
Originally from Los Angeles, Héctor relocated with his family to the Bay Area at a young age and attended local public schools before becoming the first in his family to earn a college degree. He went on to obtain a master’s degree in education from Stanford University and has worked with high school-aged students as a bilingual aide, classroom teacher, guidance counselor, and school and university administrator.
